About Acyclovir
Acyclovir is a synthetic nucleoside analogue which is used to reduce the pain
and itching caused by herpes infections or chickenpox. Acyclovir does not cure
or prevent the appearance of sores but decreases the frequency and their severity.
It may also have other uses as instructed by your doctor.
Usage
Acyclovir comes as either an ointment to be directly applied at the infected area or a tablet, capsule or liquid to be taken orally. Acyclovir should be taken according to your doctor's directions. Do not take a dose higher or lower than your prescribed amount. Do not stop taking it without consulting your doctor. If you forget to take a dose take it as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose take it and continue your regular dosing schedule. Do not take more than your usual dosage to make up for a missed one. Do not take it if it's expiration date has passed.
Side effects
Acyclovir may cause the following side effects: headaches, burning or itching, diarrhea, nausia and vomiting. Notify your doctor if these symptoms should persist. Other rarer side effects may include abdominal pain, urinating blood, fever, severe rashes and itching, yellow skin and eyes and confusion. If any of these symptoms should appear contact your doctor immediately!
Storage
Acyclovir should be kept tightly closed in the container it came in. It should
be kept at room's temperature. Avoid storing it near heat or light.
